Storage and backup services to generate US$ 188mn for US ISPs by 2012

May 9, 2008 – Storage and backup services are projected to generate an additional US$ 188mn in subscription revenue for US broadband service providers in 2012, with over 1.5mn consumers signing up for the services, according to a new report from Parks Associates.

May 8, 2008 – Shipments of IP set-top boxes worldwide will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.1% through the end of 2012 and represent annual revenues of US$ 3bn by the end of this period, according to new research by IMS Research.

Intel, Infineon, Texas Instruments and Panasonic announce HomeGrid Forum

April 30, 2008 – Semiconductor and CE firms Intel, Infineon, Texas Instruments and Panasonic have announced the formation of HomeGrid Forum, with the intention of promoting home networks which use domestic wiring such as electricity, phone and coaxial cable lines.

Video roundtable - Next generation cable

ipTV News Studio (part of ipTV News) and IPTV World Forum hosted a video debate discussion entitled "Next generation cable" during the IPTV World Forum 2008, held in London last March.  The discussion was chaired by TV technology journalist John Moulding and engages with threats the cable industry is facing from IPTV and satellite, and over-the-top video to some extent, and the opportunities presented by increased triple-play penetration and improved economics for non-HFC expansion.

HP releases high-def TVs with Media Center Extender capability

April 18, 2008 – HP has announced the launch of its new MediaSmart high-definition LCD TVs featuring Microsoft’s Media Center Extender capability, allowing them access digital media from elsewhere in their home network as well as online services and on-demand TV.
