Scientific-Atlanta First to Launch Innovative Multi-Room DVRScientific-Atlanta have announced the launch of the innovative Multi-Room™ Digital Video Recorder. With Multi-Room DVR, a consumer can not only choose what to watch and when to watch it, but also precisely which room to watch it in.
Multi-Room builds on Scientific-Atlanta’s very popular DVR service launched in August 2002. Time Warner Cable, the cable industry leader in the deployment of DVRs, is now initiating Multi-Room deployment in its Minneapolis division. The Explorer 8300 Multi-Room is a standard-definition two-tuner DVR, Multi-Room server and cable box in one. It gives non-DVR set-tops some DVR control, allowing users to access, watch and control as many as four other shows from their personal library on four different televisions. Two other programmes can also be simultaneously recorded. Other benefits include; The ability to watch and control the same program on multiple televisions The control of live TV: If the phone rings during a favourite live programme, just press pause on the remote control Use of Instant Replay with live television The option to pre-set and record all ongoing episodes of a TV programme The potential to create a personalised video library of favourite shows and play them back at any time. Michael P. Harney, corporate senior vice president and president of Subscriber Networks said of the new product; "Using Scientific-Atlanta's Multi-Room DVR solution, we have made it incredibly easy for our customer's subscribers to watch their DVR recorded content throughout the home.” The market advantage for Scientific-Atlanta is clear, as Harney states; “They are setting the stage as the provider in the market place for the connected home." The appeal to consumers, and the appetite for the product is already clear. Jennifer Choate, Principal, CCubed, LLC, said that; “New DVR research shows that the concept of a truly connected home that allows recorded content to be viewed on multiple TV’s is very appealing to consumers. In fact, that was one of the highest ranked features of interest by DVR users surveyed." http://www.scientificatlanta.com |
