Apple launches Safari browser for WindowsJune 12, 2007 - Apple has launched a new version of its Safari web browser which is compatible with Windows, creating new competition for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer and Mozilla's Firefox.
Steve Jobs, Apple’s Chief Executive, commented he was ready to “dream big” and aims to increase the 4.9% market share currently held by Safari, which has hitherto only been available on Apple’s platform. Speaking at the World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco, California, Mr. Jobs claimed that Safari was the “fastest browser” on Windows” and twice as fast as Internet Explorer. A beta version of Safari 3 for Windows XP, Vista and Apple Macs running OSX is available for download from Apple’s website. “We think Windows users are going to be really impressed when they see how fast and intuitive web browsing can be with Safari,” Mr. Jobs added. |
