CEA announces new connection standard for portable media playersJune 18, 2007 – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) of the US has announced that its Mobile Electronics Committee has published a new connection standard for Portable Media Players (PMPs), which covers both in-home and in-vehicle use.
The new standard, known as CEA-2017, Common Interconnection for Portable Media Players, defines the electrical and mechanical properties for a connector that will transfer audio, video, associated metadata, control signals and power between PMPs and in-home and in-car audio or video systems. Brian Markwalter, the Vice President of technology and standards for the CEA, commented: “CEA’s Mobile Eletronics Committee brought together over 100 companies to develop CEA-2017. These companies represent all sectors of the portable device industry, including portable device manufacturers, connector manufacturers, chip makers, accessory manufacturers, automobile manufacturers and the content community.” The CEA's Mobile Electronics Committee is co-chaired by Jim Tranchina, Vice President of Engineering for Audiovox Corporation, and Jack DeBiasio, OEM Project Manager for Scosche Industries Inc. |
