Joost rumoured to be in talks with set-top box manufacturers

June 20, 2007 - Online TV streaming service Joost is thought to be preparing to deliver content to set-top boxes, opening the way for viewing its content on TVs.

The rumours follow comments by David Clark, Joost’s Vice President of Global Advertising, who hinted that the company is in talks with hardware manufacturers to embed Joost software in third-party set-top boxes, adding: “You’ll see Joost in the living room.”  Details of which companies Joost is in talks with have not yet been revealed.  The new CEO of Joost, Michelangelo Volpi, said recently that: "Joost is a piece of software and it can reside on a variety of platforms.  It could be on a television set-top box.  Or potentially it could be embedded in a TV with an Ethernet connection."

Streaming its service to a television via a set-top box, rather than a computer screen, would be a welcome move for many users, and follow in the path of other new Internet-enabled TV services such as IPTV.
