Amino and SureWest Communications strengthen IPTV set-top box relationship with deployment of AmiNET130

June 21, 2007 - UK set-top box manufacturer Amino has announced that SureWest Communications, an independent US telecoms holding company, is to deploy the new AmiNET130 high definition (HD) IPTV set-top box as part of its IPTV service offering.

SureWest previously deployed Amino’s last generation of set-top boxes, the AmiNET120, for its HD IPTV services in the US.  The AmiNET130 is a MPEG-2/MPEG-4, HD, Internet Protocol set-top box, and supports low-bit rate Advanced Video codec (AVC) and High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI).  Bill DeMuth, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at SureWest Communications, stated: “In addition to offering the customer a more responsive navigational experience, the AmiNET130 supports the latest in end-to-end digital HDTV and provides the means for future MPEG-4/H.264 video deployment.”

Research firm ABI Research recently declared Amino to be the world’s leading vendor of IPTV set-top boxes for the second year running.  The AmiNET series has been part of commercial deployments and trials in over 80 countries globally, mainly with telecommunications, broadcast and hospitality service operators.
