Westell and 4HomeMedia to launch multi-service residential gateway for the connected home

June 29, 2007 - Westell Technologies, a US broadband access equipment provider, has announced that it is teaming up with 4HomeMedia, a US provider of software and services platforms, to launch a multi-service residential gateway.

Westell will integrate 4HomeMedia’s ControlPoint embedded software into its UltraLine Series3 IP video gateway, allowing broadband service providers to deliver fee-driven services, such as home automation and monitoring, home health, energy and media management services.  “With the integration of 4HomeMedia’s ControlPoint embedded software, the gateway becomes a services engine for telcos, providing numerous for-fee broadband home services under a common user-interface system,” commented Alex Fedosseev, 4HomeMedia's Director of Product Management.

The UltraLine Series3 is one of the few residential gateways to support the latest cutting-edge advances in wide area network (WAN) solutions, and supports the fastest-rate VDSL2 profile, capable of bi-dimensional traffic of 100Mbps over short distances.  The product range, launched earlier in 2007, also includes models for fibre to the home (FTTH) environments, and Westell’s future models will additionally support HPNAv3.  Scott Voegele, Westell’s Director of Product Management, added: “the UltraLine Series3 was created to support third-party, premium value-added services for consumers.  4HomeMedia’s platform approach… significantly increases its capabilities.”
