Entropic completes acquisition of RF MagicJuly 3, 2007 - Entropic Communications, a US technology solution provider for connected home entertainment, has completed its acquisition of RF Magic, also based in California and a fabless developer of broadband radio frequency systems-on-a-chip, for undisclosed terms.
“We are pleased to welcome the RF Magic team into the Entropic Communications family,” said Patrick Henry, Chief Executive Officer of Entropic Communications. “With our combined product line, we now have a breadth of technology solutions to enable connected home entertainment.” Henry will become CEO of the merged company, while the President and Chief Executive Officer of RF Magic, Mark Foley, will become Chief Operating Officer, and Itzhak Gurantz, founder and Chairman of Entropic, will become Chief Technology Officer. The combined Entropic company now offers an enlarged product portfolio for delivering triple-play services of voice, video and data, and the takeover will expand its plans to cover a range of digital TV standards, including tuners for terrestrial, satellite and DVB-C cable television. Entropic reportedly expects to make few layoffs as a result of the acquisition, and intends to retain its design centre in Hong Kong, as well as RF Magic’s design centre in Nice, France, and a design centre in Israel acquired when Entropic took over Arabella Software. RF Magic has reportedly shipped over 20mn integrated circuits since being founded in 2000. |
