Sky joins forces with Sony to offer on-demand video on PSP

July 30, 2007 – Satellite broadcaster Sky and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) have announced that they are teaming up to deliver on-demand video content to owners of the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) in the UK and Ireland.

The service is expected to include content such as sports, entertainment, movies, music and animation from both Sky and third-party channel partners.  The two firms are reportedly already in talks with entertainment content providers across Europe so that they can extend the service to European PSP owners.

Launch date for the portable on-demand service in the UK and Ireland is expected to be early 2008.  There are reported to be over 2.3mn PSP owners in the UK and Ireland.

Delivery to the PSP is to be enabled wirelessly or via PC connection.  More details on the service will be announced by SCEE at the Games Convention event in Leipzig, Germany on 22 August.
