Ikanos launches VDSL2 residential gateway processor with MIPS32 24KE core

August 1, 2007 – Ikanos Communications, a US developer of Fiber Fast broadband solutions, has launched the Fusiv Vx180 VDSL2 gateway processor, based on the MIPS32 24KE core produced by chip developer MIPS.

Ikanos’ Vx180 single chip, multi-mode VDSL2 gateway processor is designed to deliver 2.7Ghz of processing power, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), multi-mode DSL and security, whilst also offering strong Quality of Service (QoS) and wire speed performance.  Targeted applications include customer premise equipment, home networking, small office/home office (SOHO) and small and medium enterprise (SME) networking.

“As new broadband access applications emerge and standards continue to evolve, our next-generation solutions must adapt quickly to meet market demand for increased performance, flexibility and power-efficiency,” commented Dean Westman, Vice President and General Manager of Ikanos’ Gateway Products Group.  “The proven performance and advanced features of MIPS’ 24KE processor combined with Ikanos’ Fusiv technology give our residential gateways an edge in a quickly advancing marketplace.”

Infonetics Research forecasts that annual broadband CPE revenue will reach $6.2bn by 2010 as service providers continue to bundle voice, data, video and wireless services in triple and quadruple play offerings to attract new customers and reduce churn among existing customers.
