Blockbuster acquires Movielink joint ventureAugust 10, 2007 – Blockbuster has announced that it has acquired Movielink, a joint venture of movie studios that sells movie and TV downloads.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Movielink was founded in 2002, and is a joint venture between MGM, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Studios. The service makes content available for viewing on PCs, portable devices, television-connected home networks and approved set-top boxes. Under the terms of the agreement, Blockbuster will gain access to licences of the movies that the studios have made available on the service, as well as content from more than 30 other studios, television-content distributors and foreign and independent content providers. “Now, in addition to the entertainment content we provide through our stores and by mail, we have taken an important step toward being able to make movie downloading conveniently available to computers, portable devices and ultimately the television at home,” said Jim Keyes, Chairman and CEO of Blockbuster. |
