Over 17mn digital cable TV subscribers and 736,000 IPTV subscribers in China in Q2August 28, 2007 – There were 17.29mn subscribers to digital cable TV services and 736,000 IPTV subscribers in China in the second quarter of 2007, according to Analysys International.
The consulting company found that there were 3.12mn conditional access system (CAS) cards issued to new subscribers of digital cable TV between April and June of this year. Beijing Novel-Tongfang Digital TV Technology was the largest supplier with a 44% market share. Digital Video Networks came in second place with a 19% market share, followed by Irdeto Access with 12%, then NDS with 9%. The number of IPTV subscribers in the country was found to have increased by 20.3% in the second quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter. UTStarcom was the largest operator of IPTV services in the period, accounting for 43.3% of all IPTV subscribers in the country. Vcom was the second largest provider of IPTV services in China, accounting for 39.6% of all subscribers, followed by ZTE with 12.8%. Huawei Technologies came in fourth place with 3.7%, followed by Alcatel Shanghai Bell with 0.5%. Henan, Shanghai and Heilongjiang were the areas of the country found to have the most IPTV subscribers, all with over 100,000 subscribers. |
