QNAP announces new firmware for NAS devices to support DLNA media streaming function to Xbox 360 and PS3September 5, 2007 – QNAP, a Taiwanese manufacturer of network-attached storage (NAS) devices, has announced the release of the latest firmware for its TS-109 and TS-209 series.
The new firmware will enhance the devices’ support for the Digital Living Network Alliance (DNLA) media playing function of the Sony Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 games consoles. All the multimedia content stored on QNAP NAS devices can be automatically shared to a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 connected to the home network. “The new generation TS-109 and TS-209 series break through the transfer rate bottleneck of traditional NAS by adopting the most advanced high-speed embedded 500MHz CPU and 128MB DDRII memory,” stated Brian Lee, VP of QNAP’s research and development department. “QNAP takes the lead in supporting PS3 and Xbox 360 DLNA with TS-109 and TS-209 series. This further enriches the functions of the all-in-one NAS series, which already support BT download, PHP MySQL & SQLite supported web server, iTunes music sharing, built-in photo album, etc. It is an excellent choice for digital home users.” THE TS-109 series supports up to 1TB of internal SATA hard drive space, and the total storage capacity can be extended to 2TB. The TS-209 series has a maximum storage capacity of 2TB. |
