Microsoft rules out built-in Wi-Fi for Xbox 360

September 24, 2007 – Microsoft has told news portal Pocket-lint that it has no current plans to include built-in Wi-Fi in the Xbox 360 console.

“It’s down to cost,” a spokesperson for Microsoft’s gaming division told the news portal.  “We currently include an Ethernet cable and one month's free subscription to the Xbox Live service.  We don’t want people not interested in wireless connectivity having to pay for technology that they don’t want.”

Rival consoles from Sony and Nintendo both have in-built Wi-Fi as standard, however for the Xbox 360 an external Wi-Fi receiver can be purchased for GB£ 60.
