VUDU signs with movie studios to deliver high-definition titles to VUDU box

November 30, 2007 – US firm VUDU has announced that it has signed deals with Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios and Lionsgate to add high-definition (HD) films to the VUDU box service, and plans to add more HD titles from other studios in the future.

The VUDU box connects to a broadband Internet connection and a TV to deliver video-on-demand titles as part of a “Movie Store in a Box” service.  The VUDU box went on sale last month in the US and offers consumers around 5,000 films at present.

“We’re pleased to deliver to consumers HD films during the home video and video-on-demand windows from studios that have brought us so many legendary movies,” said Mark Jeung, CEO of VUDU.  “Our new offering will provide customers a superior viewing experience and begin to expand the range of offerings on VUDU.”

Thomas Lesinski, President of Paramount Pictures, added: “We’re pleased to expand our partnership with VUDU to include digital distribution of our films in HD.  VUDU is rewriting the rules with its superb user interface and ease of use.  Consumers will find watching our movies in HD on VUDU to be a great experience.”
