NEC unveils home networking solution LuiDecember 5, 2007 – NEC has released details of its new home networking solution, called Life with Ubiquitous Integrated Solutions (Lui), which will be demonstrated at the iEXPO networking show in Japan running this week.
The solution consists of a central home server that streams music to terminals around the home, including TV sets, PCs and proprietary portable devices called “PC Remoters”. The home server PC contains two digital terrestrial TV tuners and has the ability to stream two other high-definition streams to elsewhere in the home. As for the portable devices, the PC Remoter Notebook has a 10.6 inch screen, weighs 650g and connects securely to the server by VPN. The PC Remoter Pocket is a PDA-type device that features a 4.1 inch touch screen for displaying media received from the central server. Neither portable device has onboard storage, meaning that all content will have to be streamed from the central server. The three Lui devices will be available in Japan from the first half of next year. |
