Spain’s broadband market nearing saturation, according to CMTDecember 6, 2007 – Spain’s broadband market is reaching saturation point, according to telecoms regulator Comision del Mercado de las Telecomunicaciones (CMT).
New figures compiled by the organisation have revealed that there were 125,364 new broadband Internet connections in October, down 15.7% from the same month of last year. Spain currently has a penetration rate of nearly 50%, and the number of broadband connections established in the third quarter of this year was down 28% relative to the same period of 2006. Telefonica accounted for 56% of the new broadband connections, with other ADSL connections accounting for 29.6% and cable operators accounting for 14.5%.
