Streaming21, Microsoft Taiwan and Sampo announce Digital Home Alliance

December 17, 2007 – Streaming21, a developer of broadcast-quality streaming solutions, Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Sampo and Microsoft Taiwan have announced the formation of the Digital Home Alliance.

The companies are bringing to market co-developed digital home solutions aimed at connecting the digital home with the networked world via applications developed by Streaming21, based on the recently released Microsoft Home Server and integrated with Sampo consumer electronics.

“Digital home ecosystem integration is the key factor for success in the future of the digital home,” said Eric Chen, Chairman of Sampo.  “Sampo, Streaming21 and Microsoft Taiwan have worked closely throughout the product integration and development cycles to create compelling digital home innovations unlike any others on the market today.  We believe they will add value and differentiate our consumer appliances sold around the world.”

As a press conference announcing the new alliance, Sampo showcased its branded Home Server appliance, which enables innovative services on newly launched digital home appliances such as the IP Refrigerator, IP set-top box (STB) and 42-inch LCD HDTV with embedded STB and support for Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) standards via wired or wireless networks.

The Home Server platform allows users to add applications, subscribe to preferred services, manage personal media content and display real-time Internet content such as weather, stocks and news.  Once connected to the IP Refrigerator, users can access on-demand cooking tutorials, food management and streaming music.
