SK Telecom reveals plans to launch Internet TV serviceDecember 19, 2007 – Korean telco SK Telecom has revealed plans to launch an Internet TV service offering video on demand (VOD) content that can be accessed through any local ISP.
SK Telecom intends to launch the service soon, with Samsung Electronics providing the set-top boxes to enable users to receive the content. Detailed schedules for the launch were not revealed. SK Telecom has also recently signed a contract to purchase Hanaro Telecom, which runs an IPTV service called “Hana TV”, and said that it plans to offer both services concurrently. “As we are waiting for government endorsement of the Hanaro Telecom purchase, it is too early to talk about a tie-up between the two services,” said an SK Telecom official. “We plan to run Hana TV and our own Internet TV separately for the time being.” |
