Sony includes DivX support in firmware update for PlayStation 3

December 19, 2007 – Sony has released firmware update version 2.10 for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) games console, adding support for DivX files and bringing it into line with the media centre capabilities of the Xbox 360, which also supports this format.

The firmware update also adds support for VC-1 (WMV) files, as well as Profile 1.1 support for the PS3’s Blu-ray capabilities, enabling it to support new on-disc features such as picture-in-picture.  The update requires 120MB of free storage space.

Other features included in the firmware update include a voice changer feature, allowing users to change the pitch of their voice on voice/video chat.
