AT&T adds VoIP to U-verse packages

January 23, 2008 – AT&T has added residential VoIP services to its U-verse packages for the first time, finally completing the operator’s triple-play package to make all three services (voice, video and data) IP-based.

The VoIP services were launched in Detroit yesterday, the first city where they will be available, and AT&T reports that this will be expanded to additional markets throughout 2008.

The addition of U-verse Voice will bring many interactive services to customers previously not available, such as click to call, U-verse messaging, and a locator service that rings up to four numbers at the same time.  AT&T will charge $40 per month for unlimited calling on U-verse Voice, a similar charge to cable MSOs such as Comcast.
