Microsoft indicates European Xbox 360 video store is to get more titles
January 25, 2008 – Microsoft UK has indicated that the European Xbox 360 video store is to be expanded with new titles in “the coming weeks”, adding however that a recent suggestion by its Irish division that the European library will be brought in line with its US counterpart is “premature”.
The European library currently offers around 40 films, whereas US Xbox 360 owners have access to around 400 titles. The Manager of the Entertainment and Devices Division for Microsoft Ireland, Orla Sheridan, has reportedly told Silicon Republic that Microsoft has “imminent” plans to boost the content available on the European service and bring it into line with the US.
A representative for Microsoft UK has since stated however that: “I think what Orla meant to say by “imminently” is “at some stage in the future”. We’ve just launched Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix last week, and with more content to come in the coming weeks, we’re always looking to bolster our Live Video Store offering in Europe.”
Xbox 360 Video Marketplace launched in Europe in December last year, offering console owners a range of content including high-definition movies for 380 Microsoft Points (about £3.20) and standard-definition titles for 250 Microsoft Points.
