Dish to seek overturning of $94mn TiVo patent ruling
February 4, 2008 – US satellite TV operator DISH Network has announced that it plans to contest a ruling by the federal appeals court last Thursday awarding TiVo $94mn for patent infringement.
TiVo filed a lawsuit against DISH Network back in 2004 claiming that the latter had infringed the patent for its “time-shift” technology. TiVo said in a statement that it is “extremely pleased” with the appeals court ruling.
DISH Network meanwhile has said that has downloaded new software developed by its engineers into customers’ digital video recorders (DVRs): “This improved software is fully operational, has been automatically downloaded to current customers, and does not infringe the TiVo patent at issue in the Federal Circuit’s ruling.”
