HP releases high-def TVs with Media Center Extender capabilityApril 18, 2008 – HP has announced the launch of its new MediaSmart high-definition LCD TVs featuring Microsoft’s Media Center Extender capability, allowing them access digital media from elsewhere in their home network as well as online services and on-demand TV.
The capability is being included on all new HP MediaSmart TVs and will be provided automatically to owners of second-generation MediaSmart TVs. The new MediaSmart models offer resolutions of up to 1080p as well as inbuilt wireless connectivity and support for Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA). Using the MediaSmart interface on the new models, consumers will also be able to rent or purchase thousands of movies from CinemaNow, share and purchase photos from Snapfish and access Internet radio stations via Live365. The MediaSmart models are compatible with Windows Vista Home premium or Ultimate for media sharing. “Consumers everywhere want new ways to discover, enjoy and share digital entertainment and HP is making this opportunity real,” said Carlos Montalvo, Vice President of Marketing and Services of HP’s Connected Entertainment Business. “With the ability to use a premium HDTV to easily access on-demand Web and personal media from any PC in the home, there’s never been a more fun time to hang out in the living room with friends and family.” HP is also releasing a digital media receiver called the MediaSmart Connect later this year which will reportedly make any HDTV “MediaSmart”. |
