BBC's iPlayer reaches 75mn downloads
May 23, 2008 - The BBC's iPlayer catch-up online video service has reached the milestone of 75mn pieces of content delivered, with 21mn programmes downloaded in April 2008 alone, up 21% from February 2008.
The service has been available since mid-2007 and had an official launch on Christmas Day 2007, when programme streaming was made available for Apple Mac users. The most popular shows were found to be The Apprentice and Doctor Who, with digital-only channel BBC3 also performing well, suggesting that typical iPlayer users are not always the average terrestrial viewer.
The latest statistics were announced at the recent Google Zeitgeist 208 event in London.
