Apple offers iTunes films for rental and purchase in UK and Canada

June 4, 2008 - Apple has started offering films from major studios for rental and purchase to UK and Canadian users of iTunes, with new releases available for purchase on the same day as DVD release.

The same announcement was made for the US iTunes store a month ago, and users will need iTunes 7.6.2, which can be downloaded for free. Movie purchases cost GB£6.99 or CAN$9.99 for library films and GB£10.99 or CAN$14.99 for new releases, while rentals will cost GB£2.49 or CAN$3.99 for library films and GB£3.49 or CAN$4.99 for new releases. Once a film has been rented, it will be stored for 30 days and deleted 48 hours after the user starts viewing.

High-definition versions will also be available and cost GB£1 or CAN$1 extra.  The films will be provided by studios including 20th Century Fox, MGM, Disney, Paramount, Warner and Sony Pictures.
