Five more companies join tru2way
June 10, 2008 - Five more companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to support the tru2way platform, signing the agreement with six major US cable operators to drive development for interactive, two-way set-top boxes (STBs) and cable TV.
The five companies are Advanced Digital Broadcasting (ADB), Digeo, Intel, Panasonic and Samsung. ADB and Digeo have recently introduced set-top boxes with support for CableCARD removable content protection, while Panasonic and Samsung also offer STBs which support tru2way, and Intel appears to be signaling its intent that it is still serious about cable TV devices. The tru2way platform includes a common middleware (the OpenCable Application Platform) and the licences required to support the removable CableCARD.
Mr. Francois Pogodalla, Deputy CEO of ADB Group, commented: “This milestone gives further substance our commitment to create the next generation of interactive digital cable TV together with the leading US cable operators. Open standard technology solutions have always formed a key part of our strategy. We are looking forward to contributing our technology knowledge to the industry and to bringing new tru2way based innovations and solutions to the US market.”
The six MSOs involved in the agreement are Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Cablevision Systems, Charter Communications and Bright House Networks, which together account for over 80% of US cable subscribers.
