Monster partners with Sigma Designs to deliver wireless HD distribution

June 16, 2008 - Monster, a US provider of audio and video connectivity solutions, has teamed up with semiconductor firm Sigma Designs to create advanced wireless solutions for HDMI home entertainment distribution.

The first product to be launched under the partnership will be the Monster Wireless Digital Express HD system, using Sigma's Wireless HDAV for High-Definition AV cable replacement, as well as its UWB-over-Coax technology, to deliver a "wireless and no new wires" combination solution for delivering HD content around the home. The new product will allow users to stream HD video content in 1080p resolution between HD televisions, DVD and Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes, both within the same room and in other rooms to a range of 330 feet over existing coaxial wiring.

“After evaluating other wireless solutions for A/V cable replacement, we chose Sigma as a partner for our entry into the wireless distribution arena simply because the company’s solutions proved to be the most reliable and because they meet Monster’s strict quality parameters,” said Noel Lee of Monster Cable. “In addition, Sigma’s UWB allows us to continue offering our customers the quality service levels they’ve come to expect. Together, we are achieving a “virtual wireless” solution for the whole home by combining wireless for in-room HD content streaming and UWB-over-Coax for room-to-room streaming.”

Monster’s Wireless Digital Express HD is powered by Sigma’s Wireless HDAV, which features Sigma’s UWB Windeo chipset and its Intelligent Array Radio (IAR) technology.  Monster Wireless Digital Express HD products are expected to be launched by October of this year.
