Livestation debuts Mac player with new features
August 27, 2008 - Internet TV company Skinkers has launched an Apple Mac version of its Livestation player, now available to download free of charge and offering new features which will be added to the Windows version soon.
Livestation offers over 600 channels including BBC News, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg Television, EuroNews (English, French, Italian and Spanish), France 24, i>Tele, Russia Today and BBC World Service. New features offered on the Mac version include an easy to navigate visual carousel similar to Apple's Cover Flow; a search and add feature for new channels; and a chat function, allowing viewers to connect with one another while watching television on Livestation.
"Adding web streams directly from the player and chatting about important topics while watching live channels are the first steps towards an interactive next generation streaming online service," said Matteo Berlucchi, CEO of Livestation. "As our Mac viewers had to wait longer to be able to enjoy Livestation, we felt they should be rewarded by being the first to try some of the exciting features we are adding to the Livestation experience. We have more enhancements planned and they will be released on all platforms over the coming weeks."
Livestation is based on peer-to-peer technology acquired from Microsoft Research.
