Samsung debuts widgets for new high-def TVs

August 29, 2008 - Samsung has presented a new user interface for its 7, 8 and 9 series televisions at the IFA event currently taking place in Berlin, which combine regular TV viewing with the ability to access Internet content via Mac-style widgets.

The new user interface, dubbed InfoLive, offers standard information such as news, weather and stocks, as well as its own "Content Library" database containing content for every member of the family.  Samsung formed a partnership with Yahoo! for the InfoLive service, under which Yahoo! will deliver informative content feeds from select content providers to the TV via the InfoLive service.  InfoLive is expected to be introduced on Series 7 televisions in select countries by the end of this year.

The TVs will also feature an upgraded WiseLink Pro feature, enabling users to take advantage of a USB 2.0 connection to watch video content downloaded from the Internet, as well as Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) certification.
